CEET- Common Engineering Entrance Test for Engineeering Admissions

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), a natinal regular body for professional education in India is contemplating to start Combined Engineering Entrance Test (CEET) for admission to Engineering courses across the country. AICTE Chairman, S.S. Mantha recently disclosed that AICTE will be considering the national level single entrance examination for admission to Engineering courses in all Government and private professional colleges. The proposal is under consideration at the moment.

AICTE will be conducting CMAT (Common Management Aptitude Test) from 2012-13 for admission to Management courses in various colleges located across India. Participating in this entrance is an optional for the coming year and it would be mandatory for all colleges to participate and accept CMAT from 2013-14. But conducting CEET (national level entrance for engineering admissions) will not be an easy task as there are most popular and standardized entrance tests such IIT JEE and AIEEE.

AICTE is also thining of introducing part time courses in Engineering, Pharmacy and other professional programmes. It is also proposed by AICTE that modern courses like Telecom, Retail etc could be introduced mixing curriculum of technical, general and professional courses. This could be an integrated course spanning 7 years from 9th class to Graduation. Concerned industries will be made partners in this initiative. Complete guidelines for these courses will be formulated by January 2012.
