BINC 2012 Notification - DBT Certification in Bioinformatics

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU New Delhi) has announced notification for Bioinformatics National Certification (BINC 2012) Examination to be conducted on February 25-26, 2012. The main objective of BINC examination is to train candidates to become professionals in the area of Bioinformatics. Online Registrations will open from 14-11-2011 to 03-02-2012 at BINC official website http://binc.scisjnu.ernet.in/. JNU, New Delhi has been identified as a nodal agency by the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India to coordinate this examination for 2012. Six more enters, namely Pune University, Pune; North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong, Calcutta University (WBUT) Kolkata; Anna University, Chennai; Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology, Bangalore and University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad. About 722 candidates were appeared for BINC 2011 Examination out of which 35 candidates were certified after training. Following are details of eligibility, certification and application procedure:

Eligibility Requirements: Candidates should have passed in Graduation with any one of these subjects: Science, Agriculture, Veterinary, Medicine, Pharmacy, Engineering and Technology. Candidates are not required any formal training or course in Bio-informatics to be eligible for this examination. Applicants studying final year of Bachelor's degree and international students can also apply. From this year, the Department of Biotechnology has started funding Research fellowships for all the BINC qualified Indian candidates to pursue Ph.D. in various Indian Institutes or Universities. Apart from this fellowship, top 10 candidates of BINC will receive a cash prize of Rs. 10000 each. To be eligible for Ph.D. fellowship, candidates should possess a post graduate degree and meet admission criteria of the conerned institute or university. BINC 2012 Examination consists of following papers:

1) Paper I: This is an objective Multiple Choice Type Question Paper with 100 questions for 100 marks.
2) Paper II: This is a Short Answers Type question paper with a total of 15 questions for 150 marks.
3) Paper III: This is a Practicals Paper: There will be 2 questions for 100 marks. It is a computer based test and questions will be on the subject of Bio-informatics. There will be negative marking for wrong answers in Paper I of BINC 2012. Candidates who secured at least 40 percent marks or above in Paper I only eligible to appear for Paper II and Paper III. Candidates who secured at least 40 percent marks in all 3 papers will be certified by DBT.
