JEST 2012 Notification for Ph.D in Physics

Notification for Joint Entrance Screening Test 2012 has been released. Popular as JEST 2012, it is a common entrance examination for admissions to Ph.D. programmes in Physics at premier research institutions in India. The list of participating institutions available on the website at www.jest.org.in . Admission to Ph.D. programme in Theoretical Computer Science at the Institute of Mathematical Sciences also will be conducted through JEST 2012. Research organizations and institutes use JEST 2012 scores for short listing the candidates for further selection process. All selected candidates for Ph.D programmes will receive Research Fellowships from the respective institutes. Applicants should have a valid e-mail ID, which should be active till the declaration of JEST - 2012 results. Following are details of programmes, eligibility and application procedure:

1) Ph.D. Programme in Physics: Applicants should have M.Sc. in Physics or M.Sc. / M.E. / M.Tech. in related disciplines or subjects. Candidates with M.Sc. in Mathematics / Applied Physics / Applied Mathematics / Optics and Photonics / Instrumentation / Electronics and Graduates with B.E. or B.Tech. will also be considered at some institutes.

2) Ph.D. in Theoretical Computer Science: Applicants should have M.Sc./ M.E. / M.Tech. / M.C.A. in Computer Science and allied disciplines. They should be interested in the mathematical aspects of computer science.

3) Integrated M.Sc. / M.Tech - Ph.D Programme : Candidates should have Bachelor's degree in the relevant discipline. Applicants with B.Sc. (Physics) / B.E. / B.Tech. degree also will be considered for some institutes. At Indian Institute of Astrophysics, graduates with B.Sc. (Physics / Mathematics) / B.E. / B.Tech. in the branches of Electrical / Instrumentation / Engineering Physics / Electronics and Communications / Computer Science and Engineering / Optics and Photonics also will be considered.

Interested candidates can visit websites of respective institutes for detailed eligibility requirements. From this year, candidates have to pay Rs. 100 as fee for JEST 2012. SC and ST candidates need to pay Rs. 50. Candidates can apply online through JEST 2012 website at http://www.jest.org.in/registration_form_jest_2012 . You can also apply offline through obtaining printed application form from the institute.

Important Dates:

1) Last date for online submission of applications: 15th December 2011.
2) Last date to request printed application form: 5th December 2011
3) Last date for the receipt of the filled applications: 15th December 2011
4) JEST - 2012 written test: 19th February 2012
