Hyderabad University M.Sc. Plant Sciences - Ph.D Admissions and Entrance Exams

The Department of Plant Sciences, University of Hyderabad is offering M.Sc. and Ph.D. programmes in the discipline of Plant Sciences. The department is focused on the studies in modern Plant Sciences and Microbiology. It offers Master’s programmes. These are M.Sc. Plant Biology and Biotechnology, and M.Sc. Molecular Microbiology along with a Ph.D. Programmes in all areas of Plant Sciences. The department has excellent laboratory facilities and well experienced faculty drawn from the top rung institutes in the world. There are several projects under Government and private sponsorships. Admission to all the PG programmes will be through entrance examination. Following are details of courses and admission procedure:

1) M.Sc. Plant Biology and Biotechnology: Duration of this course is two years. Course content includes Cell and Molecular Biology, Genetics, Microbiology, Macromolecular Structure and Function, Environmental Biotechnology, Molecular Plant Pathology, Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering, Plant Biochemistry, In vitro Plant Biology, Genomics and Proteomics etc.

2) M.Sc. Molecular Microbiology: This is also a two year programme. The course content includes Cell and Molecular Biology, Macromolecular Structure and Function, Microbiology, Genetics, Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering, Microbial Physiology and Biochemistry, Molecular Plant Pathology, Enzymology, Genomics and Proteomics, Molecular Virology, Bioprocess Engineering and Technology etc.

3) Ph.D. Plant Sciences: The HCU offer highly qualitative Ph.D. programme which requires skills in Scientific Writing, Research Methodology, and Bio-statistics Techniques. The average time given for Ph.D. is about 4 years.

Admissions and Entrance Examinations: For, M.Sc. Plant Biology and Biotechnology, the entrance examination will consist of question paper of 100 objective type questions of B.Sc. standard. There will be 40 questions in Botany, 20 questions each in Biochemistry and Chemistry, Microbiology and Genetics. There will be negative marking for wrong answers.

For M.Sc. Molecular Microbiology, entrance test will consist of question paper with 100 objective type questions of B.Sc. standard. Questions will be asked from these areas: 25 questions each in Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry / Chemistry, and Genetics / Microbiology. There will be negative marking for wrong answers. Candidates those qualified for JRF in exams conducted by CSIR / UGC, DBT or ICMR will have to appet for interview.
