1) M.A.: Duration of the programme is two years. There are several optional courses along with compulsory papers. M.A course is designed to cover important areas of economic theory, techniques and applied economics. Admission to M.A programme is through ranks in Entrance examination conducted by HCU. The entrance test consists of only objective type questions. The questions include topics related to general aptitude (including quantitative ability) and understanding of economics at the degree level. Duration of the exam is two hours and the question paper consists of 100 multiple choice questions.
2) I.M.A. (5 Year Integrated) Programme: The programme is common to all the candidates of IMA social sciences for the first three years. Admissions will be through an entrance test which will be common to all social sciences. Candidates will initially join IMA social sciences and later allowed to choose their discipline at the end of three years. Candidates can choose Economics or any one of the other four social sciences disciplines. The last two years of the I.M.A. Economics programme is common with the M.A. Economics programme. Admission to IMA will be based on the performance in Entrance test conducted by Centre for Integrated Studies.
3) M.Phil.: This is a one year programme. The programm will consist of course work for six months and dissertation for another six months. The course work will focus on recent advances in selected areas of economics, literature in the chosen area of research and proficiency in research methodology.
4) Ph.D. in Economics: This is a full fledged research programme. There will be course work for the candidates who have not completed their M.Phil. Admission to the M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes is based on written examination and oral test. The written test is common to both the M.Phil. and the Ph.D. programmes. This test consists of 75 objective multiple choice questions. The written examination caries 75 percent weightage and the oral test remaining 25 percent weightage. Those qualified in written test will be called for interviews. Candidates with UGC JRF will be exempted from the written test for the Ph.D. programme. Candidates should submit a research proposal along with application.
The Hyderabad Central University issues admission notification for all the above programmes during March / April every year. Detailed schedule along with written exam and interview dates, syllabus for the test, qualifications for each programme will be announced in the notification. Candidates can also obtain prospectus and application forms from the website www.uohyd.info OR www.uohyd.ernet.in . Results of HCU entrance exams will be announced in May - June every year and classes will commence from June or July of the same year.
