Hyderabad University Sanskrit Studies Admissions

Department of Sanskrit Studies, Central University of Hyderabad is offering research courses in Sanskrit. The M.Phil and Ph.D. programmes of the University are intended to offer research facilities to those interested in unearthing unlimited invaluable knowledge of Ancient Indian Heritage. The department offer courses with an interface between Sanskrit and various subfields of the Humanities, Social Sciences and the Sciences. Following are details of the programmes, eligibility, selection test / entrance exam scheme and application procedure:

1) Ph.D. in Sanskrit Studies: The Sanskrit department offer Ph.D. programme in Sanskrit Studies. The department focuses on Language Technologies and Ayurveda. The other disciplines of importance are Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, Management etc. Minimum duration of the programme is two years. The programme includes course work of one year and a dissertation under the guidance of faculty. The entrance examination for Ph.D. Sanskrit Studies consists of two parts. Part -A consists of 25 objective type multiple choice questions for 25 marks. The questions will be asked from vykarana / linguistics and on general Sanskrit. There will be negative marking of 0.33 mark for each wrong answer in this part. Part -B of the entrance exam covers three sub-sections. These are consists of short note on the research topic (10 marks), essay type questions for 20 marks to rest the research aptitude and 6 short answer type
questions for 20 Marks. Candidate will have to answer the questions related to their field of interest like Ayurveda and Language Technologies.

2) M.Phil in Sanskrit Studies: The Department of Sanskrit also offer an M.Phil. Programme of one year duration. The focus of the program is on Shabdabodha Systems and Language Technologies. There will be course work for one semester and dissertation for another semester. Entrance Examination for M.Phil consists of two parts. Part -A is an objective type paper with 25 multiple choice questions for 25 marks. The questions will be from vyakarana / linguistics and also on general Sanskrit. There will be negative marking of 0.33 mark for each wrong answer for Part - A. Part-B will consist of two sub sections. The first section contains essay type questions for 20 marks and the second section consists of short answer type questions on Vyakarana for 30 marks. Previous question papers of the entrance examination can be obtained from University library. Details of eligibility, qualifications and dates of entrance and interviews will be available in March - April every year along with notification to be displayed on www.uohyd.info OR www.uohyd.ernet.in.
