University of Hyderabad Comparative Literature Admissions

Centre for Comparative Literature (CCL) of the University of Hyderabad (UoH), Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh is offering M.A, M.Phil. and Ph.D. Programmes in Comparative Literature. The main objective of the programme is providing an interface between different literatures and cultures with focus on contemporary changes. The details of the programmes, eligibility and application procedure are given here. 1) M.A. in Comparative Literature: This two year course emphasizes on the Translation Studies as an important tool to study and pursue research in diverse languages. The entrance examination for M.A. course will consist of questions for 100 marks. There will be two parts in the question paper. Part A deals with Objective type questions for 50 marks and another part will have essay type questions for 50 marks. Following are details of M.Phil and Ph.D courses, entrance exam nature and application procedure:

2) M.Phil. in Comparative Literature: This is a two semester program which includes course work and dissertation. There will be an examination at the end of first semester. Entrance Examination for M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes consists of two parts. Part A consists of objective type multiple choice questions for 25 marks from the areas of modern Indian literatures and comparative literature theory. Part B of the M.Phil./ Ph.D. entrance question paper will consist of short notes on Indian literatures and Western and Indian critical concepts and movements for 20 marks and one essay topic on comparative Indian literature for 15 marks. There will be translation of a passage from English to an Indian language for another 5 marks.

3) Ph.D. Programme in Comparative Literature: This programme extends over a minimum duration of two years. The programme consists of course work for two semesters and a dissertation work on an approved topic under the guidance of a faculty member. Medium of Instruction in the center is English only. So, all the candidates will have sufficient knowledge of English. Applicants should submit along with the application a brief description of research topic in about 500 words.

Details of eligibility for all the programmes can be obtained from the University website at www.uohyd.info OR www.uohyd.ernet.in . HCU will release admission notification for all PG, M.Phil and Ph.D programmes during March - April every year. Candidates can download application forms from the website and results of entrance exam also will be displayed on the website. University library located at the campus will provide previous question papers of the entrance examinations for the past 5 years. Interested candidates can obtain these from the University at the time of admission process.
