Junior Intermediate English Model Paper for IPE Exams in AP and TS - 2016

Following is the Junior Intermediate English Model Question Paper for
AP and Telangana students. Section A and Section B of the question
paper are given below. Section C is on grammar and given in the next
post. Maximum marks are 100 and duration of the exam is 3 hours.

SECTION - A

I. Annotate ANY TWO of the following in 10-15 lines each: 2 × 4 = 8
a. In most real-life situations, the pieces are not given, we just
assume they are there. We assume certain perceptions, concepts and
boundaries.
b. Everyone cooperated. Everyone was a hero.
c. There will be many times as many jobs coming into being as are destroyed.
d. "But you must start somewhere; otherwise no woman will ever be able
to work in your company"

II. Annotate ANY TWO of the following in 10-15 lines each: 2 × 4 = 8
a. For that which you love most in him may be clearer in his absence,
as the mountain to the climber is clearer from the plain.
b. I am a vessel of righteousness scattering seeds of justice and
serving the noblest causes.
c. Whenever I see a caterpillar slouching towards a pansy's eye, or
hear ancestral voices in a wind's howl I invoke my deity sometimes
twice a day.
d. Oh dearest, dearest boy! My heart for better lore would seldom
yearn could I but teach the hundredth part of what from thee I learn.

III. Answer ANY TWO of the following in 10-15 lines each: 2 × 4 = 8
a. Explain the use of six thinking hats. How does it help in group discussions?
b. The demands, both mental and physical, of wicket keeping greatly
exceed those of batting, bowling or fielding. Explain.
c. "This is the ultimate failure of terrorism against the United
States" notes Adam Mayblum. Why does Mayblum consider the terrorist
attack a failure?
d. What were some of the ridiculous answers given by Wasserkopf? Why
did the teachers accept these answers?

IV. Answer ANY TWO of the following in 10-15 lines each: 2 × 4 = 8
a. List all the qualities a true friend should have, according to Kahlil Gibran.
b. Describe how children spent their leisure time in the past and how
they spend it now.
c. Does the poet approve of celebrating Mother's Day? Explain.
d. The poem "A Spider and a Fly" is a celebration of "Beauty" rather
than "Utility". Justify your answer.

V. Answer ANY ONE of the questions in about 25-30 lines. 1 × 8 = 8
a. What is the moral of the story that the bachelor narrated? How is
the story going to create problems for the aunt?
b. Describe how the stranger slowly became obsessed with the Face on
the Wall and how his life was affected.
c. Is the nightingale's sacrifice in vain? Give reasons to support your answer.

SECTION - B

VI. Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions that
follow: 5 × 1 = 5
One day in primary school, the teacher told our class, "Draw a leaf"
and left. Later, as each boy showed him his work, the teacher was
furious.
When my turn came, he looked at the petal leaf on my slate and asked,
"Did you draw this?" I got scared and said, "No sir..." and started
walking backwards, thinking I'd get a slap. But he said, "Very good,
you'll become a good artist," and gave me 10 marks out of 10.

VII. Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions

A long time ago in China, there were two friends, one who played the
harp skillfully and one who listened skillfully. When the one played
or sang about a mountain, the other would say: "I can see the mountain
before us." When the one played about water, the listener would
exclaim: "Here is the running stream!"

But the listener fell sick and died. The first friend cut the strings
of his harp and never played again. Since that time, the cutting of
harp strings has always been a sign of intimate friendship.
1. What happened to the listener?

3. Write a synonym of "see".
